Cowdenbeath Horticultural Society has received a hamper from local butcher Tom Courts to help raise money for their annual show.

George Bird, chairman of the horticultural society, told the Times that thanks to the generous support of individuals and businesses sponsoring and or giving prizes, the committee were able to plan this year's flower show under the title "The "Gateway to Fife".

Most of the sections have something to do with Celebrating Fife 2010.

The schools, for example, have been asked to write a poem about Fife that must include the Central Fife Community Panel's logo "Enjoy Don't Destroy" and a collage depicting Fife as they see it. The Gateway to Fife theme will be the main part of the much admired floral centrepiece in the Trinity Church which will include a three metre photograph of the Forth Road Bridge and a specially built Forth Rail Bridge three metres long complete with moving train and carriages.

Special prizes

To help with the above, local butcher Tom Courts is donating three special prizes for the prize draw. First prize will be a luxury hamper and a £50 voucher, second prize is a £30 voucher and the third prize is a £20 voucher.

Committee member Duncan Bell, who accepted the generous prizes on behalf of the society, said that any of the prizes would come in handy in the approach to Christmas.

Vice chairman, Tom Arnott thanked Tom for his continued support of the flower show. Tom replied that the local flower show success was down to keeping to the high standards of the past and included trying out new ideas.

This is the same formula that he and his staff worked to and were always happy to provide to his customers.
