Night of nostalgia at Bowhill Club

On Friday 16th July there will be an evening of nostalgia held in Bowhill War Memorial Club.

This special event is being organised by a number of local people and supported by both the John Thomson Memorial committee and Action Group with assistance from Bowhill Community Learning & Development Centre.

The organisers are also grateful to Fife Council for their financial support, particularly Celebrating Fife.

There will be a display of nostalgic photographs pertaining to the Bowhill and Dundonald Miners' Rows in the Bowhill War Memorial Club between 2pm and 4pm where refreshments will be available to those who come to view.

The display will also be available during the evening event between 8pm and midnight.

The social evening will provide an opportunity for local people, who were once resident in the Rows, and their families to talk over old times. Tickets priced at £5, available from Bowhill Community Learning & Development Centre, Corrie Centre and Bowhill War Memorial Club, include a splendid buffet and live entertainment provided by local resident Michael Philip and his band, Conundrum.

On production of their ticket everyone will receive a free CD entitled 'Tales fae the Raws', featuring music and songs written especially by Michael Philip and Barnie McCormack depicting the history of the Miners' Rows.

Organising Committee spokesman, Alex Burns MBE, who himself was born and brought up in Fourth Street, Bowhill, concluded by saying that there has been a lot of local interest in the proposed event and although it is about 60 years since residents moved from the Rows into the newly built houses in Cardenden, there are still fond memories of the Miners' Rows and the strong bond created between families. Mr Burns is appealing for anyone who has old photographs to hand them into Bowhill Centre where they will be scanned and returned to the owners.

It is anticipated that there will be a huge demand for tickets and people are being encouraged to purchase their ticket quickly to avoid disappointment.
