It was back to school for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath MP Gordon Brown when he visited Lochgelly High School with former Lochgelly school pupil Jim Leishman.
The school pipe band were on hand to welcome their local MP and performed a few sets and told him about their news that they have been chosen to play for the Pope when he visits Scotland later this year.
Mr Brown was able to reminisce with pupils, telling them of his days at the school and the importance of the teachers, naming his former teachers from his school days. He visited the Engineering and Technology Department and met up with the pupils who have been competing in the Formula 1 in schools competition.
The MP said, "It is great to come here and see what I can only describe as amazing work that is going on within the school.
"I just want to thank all the staff involved for their commitment and dedication that was so visible.
"We can all be so proud of the hard work, the learning and teaching going on in our schools."
The former PM also took part in a question and answered session with pupils and discussed issues ranging from the collapse of the banking system to third world poverty to who is going to win the first local derby next season between Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath!
He also heard first hand of the work the school is doing in Malawi and the links to other schools in that country.
Jim Leishman praised the work of the school adding, "I am so pleased that Gordon Brown invited me to come with him on this visit.
"The activities going on in this school is just great. I felt so proud of all the pupils and want to wish them the very best for their futures".
