A FIFE catering business is celebrating its first birthday on 22nd June with a new van, thanks to support from Fife Council's Development Services and BRAG Enterprises Ltd who have been working closely with the social enterprise.

Taste of Home Scotland Limited (THS), run by mother and daughter Helen and Nicola Young, started up last year. They run the café at Crosshill Business Centre near Lochgelly and provide pre-cooked meals to elderly and disabled residents in the area, currently providing job and training opportunities for five local people.

In order to expand their business, they needed funding to purchase a refrigerated van for deliveries and a blast chiller for their kitchen. As a new social enterprise, THS was able to benefit from the specialist start -up business advice available from BRAG Enterprises, who in turn helped the company to secure grant funding of £10,000 from Fife Council's Economic Regeneration & Partnerships team to buy the delivery van and blast chiller.

The welcome birthday present means THS can now bid for bigger contracts and will meet environmental health standards required for larger scale catering. They also hope to be able to create additional jobs in future and the new customized van will help to promote their business.

Councillor Tony Martin, strategic chair of the Enterprise, Environment and Transportation committee, said, "Social enterprises play a key role in assisting with the regeneration in Fife and it's encouraging to see businesses like THS grow and see the contribution they make to local communities and we wish them well for the future."

Helen Young, THS, added, "We couldn't have anticipated this time last year that we would have a van on the road promoting our service to the community of Fife.

Not only have we been given the best present ever but appreciate the advice and help Fife Council Development Services and BRAG Enterprises have given us to enable us to get through our first year in business."
