ST PATRICK'S Primary School in Lochgelly has received high praise from Her Majesty's Inspectors of schools following a glowing report during their inspection, in March. These were the findings in their report which was published this week.

From their inspection, they found that the school provided a "very good quality of education" and that, "overall, children's learning needs are very well met", and so were able to give all areas inspected an evaluation of "Very Good".

Craig Munro, Head of Education said, "I am delighted for the headteacher, Catherine Clarke, and all her staff on an outstanding inspection.

"It was very encouraging that the overwhelming response from the inspection team was "very good".

St Patrick's pupils are delighted with the inspectors' comments which found the children to be "well motivated, talked enthusiastically about their learning and were proud to attend the school".

The report also highlights that they have "positive attitudes towards school and their own achievements" which is reflected in the school's 'Key to Success' positive behaviour initiative.

Staff at St Patrick's were rewarded for all their hard work and commitment when the inspectors commented, "Across the school, staff take responsibility for developing aspects of the school community and have worked in teams successfully to develop the work of the school".

They also commented that pupils responded to this level of commitment from staff with a very high percentage of children attaining appropriate national levels, with a significant number of pupils attaining levels in reading, writing and mathematics early.

They found St Patrick's particular strengths to be: The children are motivated and engaged in a broad range of high-quality learning experiences. The positive, inclusive and welcoming ethos meets the needs of all children. The headteacher's leadership of learning, encouragement and support of staff; All staff share in the responsibility for improving the school; and the involvement of parents and a range of partners in working with the school to support children's learning.

Headteacher Catherine Clarke said, "I am very proud of what we have achieved at St Patrick's.

"The HMI evaluations reflect the hard work and commitment of staff and pupils and the very high level of support and voluntary help we receive from parents/carers throughout the year. It is an outstanding report".

Building on existing good practice in Implementing Curriculum for Excellence and developing further opportunities for children to be involved in the decision-making process were the two areas highlighted by HMIE inspectors as action points. The school has already began to implement both of these agreed action points.
