One of the enviro teams.

AN assault by Cowdenbeath Environment Group on a woodland eyesore saw almost two skips of rubbish removed.

The Environment Group again enlisted the help of the 46th Fife cubs and scouts to tackle the woodland area next to Cowdenbeath Industrial Estate, off Perth Road.

Along with members of the public, family and friends the group spent a weekend trying to restore the area to its former glory and young and old worked diligently to accomplish the task.

At the end of day two the equivalent of one and a half large skips of rubbish had been removed from the woodland eysore.

Most of the rubbish appeared to be household waste which where possible could have been placed in litter bins, but there were none in the immediate area.

Staff at Hill of Beath Post Office and Hill of Beath Store were thanked for providing refreshments for the 'workers' and the Fife Council environmental services department were thanked for supplying the equipment which allowed the clean-up to go ahead and to Emma Millar who supplied the electricity which kept the tea urn on the go.

Said a spokesperson for the Environment Group, "This area had got into a really poor state through the dumping of rubbish and general littering.

"More litter bins could help with this and and we would like to meet with environmental services to see if this situation could be improved.

"Everyone who helped over the two days deserve a huge pat on the back for their efforts in moving such a large quantity of rubbish".
