Youngsters have plenty of ideas

Lochgelly West Primary School hosted an insight into the 'charrette' initiative for primary school children in the town.

A charrette is a French word meaning a 'race against the clock' consultation where ideas are discussed.

During the event it was explained that in the future over 1700 houses will be built in Lochgelly. and a very famous architect, Andres Duany, was leading the team who will help turn suggestions from the public into reality.

Everyone in Lochgelly would get a chance to say what they think, but at the West session it was the turn of the children of Lochgelly to have their say.

Children from St Patrick's, Lochgelly South, Lumphinanns and Lochgelly High went along to the West to take part in their own charrette. They worked with a team from SUST (Sustainable Communities Team)

The children generated creative ideas about how they would like their town to look in the future.

The ideas were amazing and ranged from an underground school to a futuristic litter detecting robot.

Children had to consider a range of topics including: waste, energy, water, indoor/outdoor leisure, jobs, transport, landscape, homes and schools.
