THE condition of a building in central Kelty is causing concern for two Lochs councillors.

Kelty Community Council was told by councillors Alex Rowley and Willie Clarke that they had asked Fife Council to step in to look at the issue.

The councillors told Thursday's Community Council meeting, "Following a number of complaints about the condition of the former co-op shop in Cocklaw Street, we asked building control to investigate the situation.

"This resulted in the owner being asked in the short term to remove loose tiles and timber from the building and place fencing around the main entrance as there appears to be some issues with panels above the door".

They added, "The building is in a derelict state and we will be following up and requesting that a condition survey be carried out.

"The fact is that tiles were falling off and bits of the building look like they are sinking and unsafe.

"We have found it difficult in the past to get action taken on a derelict building but will continue to push for this eyesore to be addressed.

"It is not acceptable that developers can allow these building to lie in a state that blights the community, yet they seem to get away with it but when the building poses a risk to people then action must be taken".

However, the councillors are happier with the progress being made on the issue of the derelict Meedie's Neuk building in Crosshill.

They told Benarty Community Council, "We continue to work with council officials to find a way of getting the former Meedies Neuk demolished.

"We have been pushing for access to the monies that were paid in the form of a planning gain to be used to demolish the building with a legal document being drawn up to ensure the monies are recouped when the land is developed at a later stage.

"We believe that progress is being made and are hopeful that with the co-operation of the developer a solution for bringing the building down will be found in the near future".
