2010 promises to be a memorable year for Cowdenbeath's Beath High School as it celebrates its centenary.
Beath has been at the heart of the community since it first opened its doors on 30th August 1910 and the school is planning a range of exciting events to celebrate this milestone in its history.
Third Year pupil, Alex Dryburgh (pictured) has designed a special centenary logo and was presented with an award for her design by Depute Rector, Lesley Porter. The logo will appear on merchandise which will be available to buy at all events.
Said Mrs Porter, "Beath's centenary is a very special landmark for all of our pupils, past and present.
"Staff and pupils are working very hard behind the scenes to make sure that this will be a year to remember."
Events planned so far include the planting of 100 silver birch trees, conversations with former pupils such as famous author Ian Rankin from Cardenden; and a fireworks display.
A day of special celebrations, including the release of 2000 balloons will take place on 30th August - Beath's Big Birthday.
January sees the opening of a Community Art Show, featuring works by staff and pupils' 2010 relatives. There is still time for local Picassos to submit work to the exhibition - just contact the school with your details.
Staff at Beath would also be delighted to hear from anyone who has memories or memorabilia connected with the school. In particular, they would like to contact residents in their eighties and nineties - or older! - in order to find the oldest former pupils of Beath.
If you have any information to share with the school, please contact Ms C Plummer at Beath.centenary@fife.gov.uk or telephone 01383 602501. You can also visit the website www.beath100.
