Police have a charged a 12-year-old boy from Lochore following a blaze at a derelict building in Crosshill.

Fire fighters were called to the Meedies Neuk just after 4pm on Saturday.

It took three crews almost two hours to extinguish the blaze, which originated in the roof of the former pub.

Following an inspection today, the council has declared the abandoned building "structurally stable".

Building standards officer Neil Mitchell added, "Security fencing is in place and other accessible openings have been secured. Safety warning signs have also been provided. In these circumstances it is not appropriate to require any additional works at this time."

Councillors Willie Clarke and Alex Rowley have called on the owner to flatten the eyesore.

Ian Sneddon has so far refused to shell out £20,000 for the demolition job.

He says the economic downturn has scuppered his plans to build fourteen flats on the site.
