Police have issued a fresh appeal for information after a man approached a schoolgirl in Cardenden and asked her to 'go with' him.

The 9-year-old was walking home between Station Road and Hyndloup Terrace around 6.45 pm on Sunday, 11th May when she was accosted.

She took fright and ran to the home of her grandparents, police say. The man, thought to be in his late 30s or early 40s, is described as having short bushy brown curly hair and a moustache. He was wearing blue trousers and a blue top.

Detectives have put together an e-fit of the suspect and are appealing to the public to help identify him.

A spokeswoman for Fife Police said: "We've had a good response so far. There's been a number of calls from the public. But we're still appealing for information. We're just looking for that person who can give us the information we need."

Sergeant John Steel, who is based in the village, appealed to the man to come forward. He said: 'It is not known what this persons intentions were and they could well be entirely innocent. The only way that we can judge if this was a purely innocent thing would be if this man were to contact the police. We are keen to speak to him to clear up any misunderstandings that may exist. Noone should fear approaching us with any information that they may have.'

Police have stepped up patrols in the area following the incident.

To provide Fife Police with information, telephone the appeals line on 01592 251111, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
