LOCHGELLY Gala Day 2015 is shaping up to be a big success, if the weather behaves.

The gala committee has spent a lot of time organising things and their hard work is looking like ensuring a superp parade and entertainment at the Public Park.

Already they have four bands in place for the big day, Sunday 23rd August, with the town’s brass band being joined by Lochgelly High School Pipe Band, Drumatics and Dunfermline Samba Band.

Also they have a number of floats entered for the parade and also taking part will be Cowdenbeath Majorettes and Crossgates Crystals, along with the Lov2Dance and ZeeDC dance troupes, plus a bus with residents of the Mossview Residential Home taking part. There will also be a vintage fire truck along with the TaeKwondo group and Newfoundland dog team. And, as long as there are no call-outs, the Lochgelly Fire Station engines.

One of the features of the parade will be stock car driver Grady Ross who will have his special car on show, which he races at Lochgelly Raceway and the Racewall at Cowdenbeath.

But before all that the fancy dress competition will be held at the West End Park starting at 10.30am when Provost Jim Leishman; Citizens of the Year Elaine Stark and Lou Davidson along with Junior Citizen of the Year, Sarah Pratt; will be the judges.

With the theme this year being The Jurassic Era there are sure to be some impressive creations on show.

Once they have made their choice the parade will get underway at 11.30am and head along Main Street towards the park. where there will be an afternoon of fun and displays. The cars will be supplied by the Co-op Funeral Service and will take the Citizens of the Year while the Provost leads the courtege.

Free for kids at the park will be inflatable bouncy slides and castle, the climbing rocks supplied by the RockGelly project, bunjee jumps and a climbing wall. There will also be a programme of races organised by Lochgelly undertakier John Gilfiillan, and it will cover a whole host of age groups, from the kids through to mums and dads and grans and grand-dads.

Lochgelly Development Forum’s Eileen McKenna, said that all that really was now needed was some good weather.

She added, “A lovely sunny day would be just brilliant but if it is a nice dry day that will be fine.

“We have had a number of people come forward to steward the parade but we could do with a few more volunteers to help set the park up on the Sunday morning.

“If anyone would like to help just call in at the Community Shop in Bank Street and let us know.” Eileen added, “We are indebted to everyone who has supported the gala through donations and those who have come forward so far to help out on the day.” Gala bags can still be bought for only £1 at outlets in the town.
