A LOCHGELLY mum was furious to find used needles lying in the bins bay near her home in Russell Street.

With a six year-old and a one year-old baby, Michelle Liddle was unhappy that having reported the issue to her landlords, Fife Housing Association, the needles lay for many hours.

Said Michelle, “I was hoping that the needles would be disposed of within a relatively short time for we have our two youngsters while there are maybe as many as 20 kids play near the bin area.

“These needles could be dangerous, especially for any children coming in contact with them, and I was hoping that these would be disposed of quickly.” FHA Housing Manager Drew Nisbet said, “This is an open area of ground which is accessible to everyone, not just our tenants.

“However, we take the issue of discarded needles and the hazard they present very seriously. As soon as this was reported to us we made arrangements for the needles to be safely removed from the area and checked that this had been carried out.

“In addition to the regular estate management checks they carry out, our Housing Officer for the area is speaking to the community wardens about increasing their patrols in the area.

“We ask anyone who finds a discarded needle to contact us immediately. If you know who is responsible for this thoughtless act, we also ask that you contact us or Police Scotland as soon as possible.”
