LOCHGELLY couple David and Mary Storrar were well known for a triple and now have 60 reasons to celebrate.

They marked their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on Sunday with a family meal accompanied by their four children, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The Storrars, of Cooper Ha’ Avenue, were married in Craigmount Church in Lochgelly on 21st June 1955 and became well known after Mary gave birth to triplets in 1964.

She smiled, “There was quite a fuss about it at the time. The local council gave them premium bonds – none of them came up though!

“It was 51 years ago now but we did know it was going to be triplets.

“Initially they thought it was twins and I had to have an x-ray. I had to spend a few months in hospital.” Mary (84) added, “My sister had twins but there weren’t any triplets in the family – not that I know of anyway!

“It was quite tough having three babies all at once but the time passed quickly when you were busy.” Their son Craig was seven when he welcomed two sisters and a brother – Lisa, Lynne and David – into the family and Lisa travelled over from her home in Kentucky for this week’s diamond celebrations.

Movie fans and keen dancers, David (90) and Mary met thanks to his cousin.

Mary explained, “I’m from Lochgelly and David’s from Lochore. I worked beside his cousin in the Co-op in Glencraig and we met at a friend’s house.

“It just developed from there. I was a clerkess and he was a painter and decorator. “We used to go bowling at Lochgelly Bowling Club and to the dancing, a long time ago now, at the Palace in Cowdenbeath.

“We’ve had a great life together.” Asked for the secret to a long and happy marriage, Mary laughed, “You’ve got to have a sense of humour, a bit of give and take helps too.”
