LOCHGELLY High pupils showed a real aptitude for philanthropy when they took part in an important venture.

The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative is an international programme that aims to develop community leaders. The pupils have been given a hands on experience of philanthropy that provided them with the skills and awareness to make a positive difference in the community. The pupils have had to research the needs of their local community and identify the local charity that they believe is best placed to make a contribution. The students have built relationships with representatives from their chosen charity and developed their public speaking skills. The pupils have been working intensively with the Social Education teacher to come up with a presentation. This has been judged within their classes and the winning group form each house had been brought together for the final last Wednesday. The most compelling presentation in the school was a £3000 grant to award to their charity Fife Woman’s Aid. Through the process, students have developed teamwork, communication and presentation.
