COWDENBEATH Area Committee last Wednesday agreed to allocate an annual budget to the Youth Strategy Group to ensure they have funding available to develop activity programmes for young people in the area.

Each year the Strategy Group comes up with events which sees hundreds of young people get activities during school holidays to help their health and well being and give them something interesting to fill their spare time.

Lochgelly and Cardenden councillor Linda Erskine said, “For a relatively small sum excellent programmes are being put together by the Group and I think we should be able to put aside a sum of money they should be able to tap into.

“It is so important to ensure that youngsters have good things to do during the holidays and I would say that it is important that funding is there.” The rest of committee agreed with her and motion put before the councillors by Ms Erskine seconded by Councillor Mark Hooid.

Councillor Willie Clarke, chair of Cowdenbeath Area Committee, said, “The committee recognises the Youth Strategy Group’s valuable work to develop programmes and activities for young people in the area.

“We believe it’s important that young people have a voice in deciding on the types of actives available and developing the programmes. This regular funding will help the Youth Strategy Group plan ongoing their projects.” The committee also agreed to ask officials to prepare reports on how the strategy progressed during each holiday period.
