THE former Good News Supermarket building on Main Street, Lochgelly, which included the town’s Post Office, was sold under the hammer on Wednesday in Edinburgh.

The supermarket closed in 2013 and left the town without a post office for more than six months. The extensive retail facilities, at 74 to 80 Main Street, wient to auction at the Edinburgh Marriott Hotel under SVA Property Auctions.

In the auction programme the property was decribed, “Internally the space is largely open plan with no internal walls dividing up the retail area, “The retail space benefits from a modern suspended ceiling with attractive customer toilets and the space to the rear is generally storage and ancillary space, although part has been used as a cafe.

“The property would be straightforward to start trading from again.

“The space is highly flexible and could, if desired, split up into several individual units.

“Conversion to residential use may also be a consideration.” It was sold for over £70,000.
