ANDREW Kirk, an S6 pupil at Lochgelly High School, is standing as a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) for the Cowdenbeath Constituency.

The Scottish Youth Parliament is made up of 150 young people from across Scotland who represent their constituents and national voluntary organisations.

Since Andrew decided to stand as an MSYP he has been to meetings throughout the Cowdenbeath constituency, discussing various issues including: council budgets, sports for youth, enabling youth to create a café, and getting funding for and creating modern youth clubs for teens.

Andrew said, “I was absolutely delighted when I went to my first pupil parliament meeting in Lochgelly High School (LHS).

“It was amazing to see so many young people involved in creating a well-adapted modern school where everyone has the right and freedom to speak out about issues which are affecting them, both in school and the surrounding area.

“I am so glad to be a part of a school where we are all working so hard to promote the young people positively within their own communities. I hope – if elected as an MSYP – I can help the young people from my school, and constituency prepare to leave and discover new exciting opportunities in the wider world.”
