LOCHGELLY High School's new state of the art community use facilities are now open after a revamp worth almost £250,000.

The doors officially reopened on Wednesday after works were completed on a new gymnasium facility, a spinning studio with a dozen brand new cycles, a totally upgraded café/flexible learning facility, and new astroturf surfaces to sit alongside the swimming pool and sports hall.

The revamp will contribute towards the school’s status as a sports hub and offers the opportunity to increase community participation in sport and physical activity and positively influence the health and wellbeing of the Lochgelly population.

Speaking to the Times last month ahead of the opening, head of Community Use in the Cowdenbeath Area Sarah Roxburgh said that she was delighted with the new facility.

“The upgraded facilities are fabulous and now among the best in the local area for sport and physical activity,” she said. “And of course while Community Use clients benefit so will the pupils of the school with greater physical activity options being provided.” The opening times of the community use facilities are Monday 5.30-7pm and 8-10pm, Tuesday to Thursday 5.30-10pm, Friday 5.30-9pm and Sunday 9.30am-1pm.
