FIFE Council has allocated £407,000 towards a new scheme which will help tenants in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area whose housing benefits do not cover the full cost of their rent.
The Discretionary Housing Payment policy, which was approved in December, will assist people who have seen their level of housing benefits reduced due to the so-called bedroom tax, the benefit cap, local housing allowance restrictions and some other situations where the benefit doesn’t meet the charge, decided on a case by case basis.
Depute council leader Lesley Laird is urging anyone affected by benefit changes to apply for the payments by contacting Fife Council as soon as possible.
