THERE was a good turn out from this area in Glasgow for the the STUC-organised march for A Just Scotland.

Melanie Ward, Labour Parliamentary candidate for Glenrothes and Central Fife, including Cardenden and Kinglassie; Mid Scotland and Fife MSP and former Cowdenbeath councillor Jayne Baxter; and Glenrothes Councillor Altany Craik, were some of those present on the march of 3500 people that brought together trade unions and anti-poverty campaigners from across Scotland. The march was held on the last day of Challenge Poverty Week and was held at the same time as similar marches in London and Belfast. It came in the week that figures were released showing that up to 1 in 3 children live in poverty in some parts of Fife.

Melanie Ward, who will be fighting the Cardenden and Kinglassie seat in May, said, “I was part of the Fife delegation on the march because we need action on jobs from both the Scottish and UK Governments.

“Terrible news about local job losses in Velux and HMRC were compounded by the disgraceful child poverty figures last week.

“We need action to help bring more decent jobs to our area and to tackle the cost of living crisis that is hurting so may people across Glenrothes, Levenmouth and Central Fife.

“Since David Cameron entered Downing Street, working people have seen pay fall an average of £1600 a year. Next year we have the chance to replace him with a Labour Government that will freeze energy bills, offer a youth jobs guarantee and raise the minimum wage. I support going further with a living wage too.” Our picture shows MSP Jayne Baxter, Melanie Ward and Councillor Altany Craik.
