FIREFIGHTERS from Lochgelly have got the ball rolling by attending the Shell twilight basketball initiative which takes place at the town’s High School community use every Friday evening.

The basketball initiative, aimed at 11 – 21 year olds, is delivered by qualified coaches and youth workers who provide a variety of content suitable to the participants.

Every session contains high energy basketball coaching which is designed to ensure that, first and foremost, the participants enjoy their time and have a positive experience of physical activity.

This free programme aims to get young people off the streets, get them fit and through the unique educational time out system, help them make positive lifestyle decisions away from drugs, alcohol and smoking. The twilight forms part of a bigger programme trying to engage with young people in the area on a Friday night, providing activities that will encourage them to make more positive choices about their health and wellbeing.

Lochgelly Station Manager Iain Brocklebank said, “Crews from Lochgelly Fire Station fully support this initiative and are pleased to work in partnership with Scottish Sports Futures. “We will endeavour to attend this initiative every alternate Friday to further engage with local youths. Projects such as this helps the fire service and its community partners to deliver important messages to local young people in a fun environment and teach them about what the fire service does and how irresponsible behaviour can have an adverse impact on their community”
