TIMES columnist and MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, Annabelle Ewing, this week pledged that the pressure will be maintained to ensure that Westminster delivers increased powers to the Scottish Parliament.

Commenting on the aftermath of the Independence Referendum, the CFT Opinion writer, the Scottish National Party’s Annabelle Ewing MSP, said, “While I am obviously disappointed at the result, I have never seen such enthusiasm for the democratic process as I witnessed during the campaign and in going round polling stations in Fife on polling day.

“Everywhere I went – Cowdentbeath, Kelty, Lochgelly, Cardenden, Ballingry – it was the same all over, the level of engagement was absolutely fantastic.

“This enthusiasm will not be put back in box and what we have seen over the course of this campaign is that folk in Labour’s traditional heartlands have been moving substantially to YES, a move that has been substantiated by the way in which the results were distributed.

“Many folk I spoke to felt betrayed by a Labour Party campaigning happily with the Tories to put a lid on their aspirations”.

She added, “What we have also seen is that within hours of result, ‘The Vow’ has already been broken and last weekend’s shenanigans on the part of the Unionist parties shows without doubt that the people of Scotland been tricked and that the debate on future of Scotland is still very much at the top of political agenda.

“As I watched people heading to vote, I also saw hope - hope that their votes could make a difference. “We in SNP will not stand by and see that hope be extinguished by the machinations and scaremongering of the Labour Party who stood shoulder to shoulder with the Tories, the bankers and big business to bully Scots into voting No.”
