AN enthusiastic young reader won a prize for signing up early to take part in the Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge at the Jennie Lee Library, in Lochgelly.

Conlan Robertson (6) was the lucky winner of an Addict-a-Ball puzzle game for being so quick to sign up for the challenge, which encouraged young bookworms aged between 4 and 11 to read six books during the summer holiday, a time when their reading often dips.

A different theme each year keeps the challenge exciting, and this year the ‘mythical maze’ theme encouraged children to collect stickers of magical creatures every time they finished a book. Any kind of book goes - fact books, joke books, even audio books - as long as they are borrowed from the library.

Sharron Brown, service development officer for Fife Cultural Trust, said, “The Mythical Maze theme really grabbed the children’s interest and with the added bonus of competition prizes along the way, kids were rushing to sign up for the challenge”.
