LOCHGELLY Gala 2014 was a tremendous success on Sunday with the weather perfect for the extravaganza.

While there was a cool breeze the sun shone and the weather was dry making it ideal for the parade and the fun at the Public Park.

Everything got underway at 10.30am at the West End Park when judging of the fancy dress parade took place with Citizen of the Year John Gibbons and Provost Jim Leishman the judges.

The results were, 6 and under 1 Findlay Paterson; 2 Farrah Keenan; 3 Kaidan Kyle. 7 and over 1 Ryder Irvine; 2 Regan Millar; 3 Sarah Pratt.

The parade left park and headed along Paul Street and onto Main Street before moving into Bank Street and down Auchterderran Road and into Grainger Street, on the way to the Public Park.

The parade was led by Lochgelly High School’s prize winning pipe band and there were floats entered by the Minto Lounge, Dunfermline Samba Band, 33rd Lochgelly Scouts, Noah’s Ark Nursery and there were also performers from the Cowdenbeath Majorettes, Crossgates Crystals, the WOTT Crew Dancers, while Lochgelly Public Brass Band played their part in making the parade a lively one.

The fun activities at the park were officially opened by John Gibbons and Provost Leishman and Junior Citizen of the Year Remi Haddow. At the park there were races for children and adults, organised by John Gilfillan, a climbing wall, a feature from RockGelly, the group who are setting up in the former St Andrews Church building, plus a bouncy castle and shows. There were pony rides, and charity stalls. The bands played for the crowds at the Public Park and there were dancing displays and a tae kwon do exhibition.

Said Lochgelly Development Forum’s Eileen McKenna, “It was a tremendous boost to have such a good day weatherwise and the parade went perfectly. We were also pleased with the people who came forward to help us and make Gala 2104 a big success.”
