ROADS to Success, an exhibition running until 1st October at FifeSpace Gallery, was officially opened by Gordon Brown, MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath, at the Lochgelly Centre last week.

This vibrant selection of artwork was submitted by a variety of individuals and agencies involved with Mental Health Services in Fife including Barony Housing, Whiteman’s Brae Hospital Occupational Therapy Department and Fife Cultural Trusts ‘Cultural Prescriptions’ workshops Local MP, Gordon Brown, said, “The exhibition is a great display of wonderful talent from across Fife.

“I praise the artists whose work is being shown, and all services involved who do excellently across Fife. I was honoured to open the exhibition, which I am sure will be a great success.” Laurie Piper, Fife Cultural Trust’s Head of Customer Services and External Relations said, “It’s a privilege for FCT to be hosting this superb display of work in Lochgelly Centre.

“The artists are particularly inspirational, the exhibition clearly demonstrates how important creativity has been in improving their mental health. ‘Roads to Success’ runs until 1st October and we’re hoping many people will take the opportunity to visit our gallery and view the artwork.” This annual exhibition, now in its 16th year, is staged in order to raise awareness of mental health issues and to help reduce the stigma too often associated with them. It’s also a wonderful reflection of the positive effects creative arts and crafts projects have on mental health and well being.

This year, the exhibition includes an additional display, ‘In Time’. This is the work of three Scottish artists and therapists, Pauline McGee, June Finlayson and Prentice Smy.
