IN his review of the picturesque walks that can be tackled by disabled people in and around Lochgelly, Robert Hunter stresses what an impressive feature the Gelly Loch is.

Yesterday he talked about the paths leading to the loch side and the Loch View Hotel, which dominated the scene.

Mr Hunter added, “The hotel has been gone for a very long time. My grandparents had their 50th wedding anniversary in it and they have been gone 30 odd years.

“The road takes you out opposite the South entrance to the Public Park, on The Avenue.

“I have spoken about the right-of-way that goes over the A92 and down to the Lochgelly Burn and on to Auchtertool but instead of going over the Burn, you can go alongside the Burn to the left which will take you to a path that goes along the north side of Loch Gelly or there used to be a path, it’s been a long time since I was able to use it so I don’t know if it is still there.

“There are some really nice views from the paths, whether it’s over the fields to Cowdenbeath or over Loch Gelly or the Little Raith Wind Farm (though, that may depend on who you ask) plus the horses in the surrounding fields. There is supposed to be a path that will take you to Auchtertool over the bridge which I have not been able to update so it might not even be there now, but even then there was no path I could see on the other side. You could also walk alongside the Burn and go to Loch Gelly. There used to be a track alongside the north side of the Loch. I have no idea if it’s still there, I have not been able to access it in a very long time.

"There is another path from the West-side of Lochgelly through Cowdenbeath Golf Course to the East side of Cowdenbeath and beyond. The entrance to this path in Brucefield Terrace has been getting upgrades recently but I am sorry to say not all to the good but I am working to get it sorted out with Fife Council and my local councillors”.

Mr Hunter concluded, “I hope you are able at some time to be able to do the walks around the Farm, I certainly enjoy them.

“You can view the other walks/rambles I have done on my scooter around Lochgelly, plus there are some walks in Kirkcaldy, Blairadam Forest and Lochore Meadows plus some others on my YouTube page under ‘ROBBIE2MS’.

“And again I must say: some of the paths/tracks are right-of-ways and others are part of the Fife Core paths plan which can be viewed on the Fife Council’s website and others can be used by the right to roam laws and of course by the goodwill of the farmer.”
