THE 2014 Lochgelly High School prizegiving saw a well known guest address the packed Lochgelly Centre.

Chris Paterson, MBE is an ambassador and specialist coach for the Scotland and Edinburgh rugby union teams.

He is a former professional player who played for Scotland - and for the most part of his career - Edinburgh.

Chris is Scotland’s record cap and points holder with 109 caps and 809 points, being capable in a range of positions, including fullback, wing and fly-half.

The 36 year-old retired from international rugby in December 2011 and as a professional player in May 2012. He now lives in South East London, works for a large accountancy firm, and sings in a choir.

Chris enjoys working with young people and he told the LHS prizegiving that hard work brings rewards.

He was impressed with the huge list of prizes which were awarded on the night and wished the LHS pupils good luck as they set out to achieve their ambitions.

School rector, Carol Ann Penrose Campbell, reflected on a very good year for the Station Road school and praised pupils for their hard work on several fronts.

While there was always room for improvement, she was very pleased with the results in external examinations and the continued success of the preparing for employment initiative.

She was also very pleased with the work of the pupils in a whole variety of extra curricular activities and on the sports field.

She also praised, and thanked, the very many sponsors the school had which contributed to the prizegiving ceremony.

There were musical contributions by the school’s prizewinning pipe band and the very talented wind band and the steel band, along with dance contributions from Remi Robertson and Amy Morgan and a vocal set from Jemma Rutherford.
