RORY Bremner and Gordon Brown attracted a big crowd to Dunfermline’s Alhambra Theatre in an event that mixed comedy and Referendum politics.

Although the event was organised by the Labour Party, Rory Bremner made it clear he was personally undecided on the big question.

When it came to impersonsations and jokes, Labour politicians such as Tony Blair, John Prescott, David Blunkett and Johann Lamont were as much in the firing line as their SNP and Tory opponents.

Rory told the Times, “It’s not a Better Together rally. Gordon’s a politician I respect and have known over the years and they asked me to come and do a show.

“I’ve not read his book so I thought I’d come and listen to what he had to say. I’ve yet to make up my mind and maybe Gordon will persuade me.” Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath MP, Gordon Brown, also entertained the audience with stories of his early days as an MP in Fife, including the meeting he attended at Cardenden where the only person who turned up was there to challenge him to a sponsored wrestling match. He also told the audience that showbiz personalities Richard Wilson, Eddie Izzard and Stephen Fry, would be taking part in referendum events in the run-up to the vote.

Fife Provost Jim Leishman gave the vote of thanks.
