HOME-Start Lochgelly has welcomed four more volunteers to their team which provides assistance for local families.

Home-Start helps families with young children deal with whatever life throws at them. They support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children.

Wendy Anderson, Denise Drummond, Gemma Sanders and Denise Ward have just completed their Volunteer Preparation Course, at the Crosshill Centre based organisation, which involved a six week course.

The following topics were covered by the course, The Role of a Volunteer; Getting Started as a Home-Visiting Volunteer; Values & Attitudes; Family Life and Supporting Parents; Listening to Families; Confidentiality; and Safeguarding and Protecting Children.

Gemma and Wendy commented on the how the preparation course has enabled them to have better understanding of how varied family life can be and respecting other people’s points of view. Denise Drummond fed back that she enjoyed the way the course did not feel too formal, this helped her feel more relaxed and able to settle in. Denise Ward said she is looking forward to helping out in the weekly family group.

Home-Start Lochgelly will be running another Volunteer Preparation Course after the school holidays so if you are interested in becoming a Home-Visiting Volunteer and would like more information give Tracy or Susan a call on 01592 861103.
