FOR the first time, Central Fifers can go online to apply for housing benefits and council tax reduction or to report changes to their circumstances if they’re already claiming these benefits.

The new online forms are available to customers on Fife Council’s website at www.fifedirect.org.uk/counciltax and there is no need to register or login. The service is also available on the mobile version of the website at m.fifedirect.org.uk Executive spokesperson for Corporate Services & Finance, Lochgelly and Cardenden Councillor, Linda Erskine, said, “This new service will make applying for benefits quicker and easier. You will be asked questions relevant to your circumstances.

“If you don’t normally use a computer but do use a smartphone, the forms are available in the ‘Do it online’ section of our mobile website.

“Not only does this make the benefits service more convenient for our customers, who can now get in touch at any time, it will help the council save money by reducing the amount of time our staff spend in meetings and on the phone.” If you want to find out if you qualify for one of these benefits you can answer questions on the new benefits calculator before completing the claim form. Any evidence needed to support your claim will still need to be handed in to your nearest local office by appointment or sent to the Benefits and Council Tax Team.

If you would like to apply online but don’t have internet access at home you can use: Self service PCs at local offices, EzFife PCs at any community library, Internet cafés, a smart phone, a computer at a friend or relative’s house.
