Minister due in Lochgelly for funding announcement

Housing and Communities Minister Alex Neil is expected to announce the success of Lochgelly's bids for regeneration cash when he visits the town tomorrow.

The Scottish Government recently announced a £60m fund to help hard pressed high streets affected by the economic downturn.

Lochgelly could get cash to build business units and upgrade the Lochgelly Centre while Cardenden has applied for funding to install a lift at Bowhill Centre.

The Minister will see a derelict land site in Main Street, Lochgelly that could soon house business units, before posing for pictures at a statue in the town square.

Lochgelly and Cardenden Labour councillor, Mark Hood, is keen that all three projects in his ward win funding.

"The area has submitted three very good bids to the Scottish Government," he said. "With the news that a Scottish minister is visiting the town tomorrow to make an announcement, things are looking positive.

"If the three bids are successful it will see regeneration in the community move forward and will have a positive impact on the entire town."

SNP councillor for the same ward, Ian Chisholm, added, "Hopefully, we'll hear of some success in our bids from Lochgelly."

  Well done to everyone and that includes all the local politicians who set the ball rolling for Lochgelly. I'm sure I speak for the people of the town in congratulating them. This community needs an injection of hope and this funding towards positive regeneration, will go a long way in introducing further forward thinking for our town.
