THE generosity of people all over the world has seen two of the area's biggest gala days get a huge boost.
Over £2,000 has gone into the coffers of Lochgelly Gala Committee and Cowdenbeath Civic Week through the sale of calendars and a book.
Derek Johnstone, of the Cowdenbeath Past and Present Facebook page, reported that sales of the Lochgelly Past and Present Calendar had raised a significant sum for the town's gala fund and the Cowdenbeath Past and Present Calendar had realised a good sum for Civic Week.
And the sale of a book written by a former Lochgelly woman about growing up in the town had also realised a good total for the gala committee.
Said Derek: "Lochgelly folks' generosity gave this year's gala day a boost of £1,885.
"This was for the sale of the 2018 Lochgelly Past and Present calendar which realised£1,080, and amazingly these were sold all over the world; also Elizabeth Reid's book 'Growing up in Lochgelly,' raised £805.
"I would like thank Elizabeth for her kind gesture from all of us on the gala committee. Also massive thanks to the Co-op, Minto Lounge and Macaris Cafe for selling them. We couldn't have done this without this support.
"Also, a big thanks to everyone who purchased a calendar or book, it is much appreciated."
Meanwhile Cowdenbeath folks' generosity gave this year's gala day a boost of £500.
Added Derek: "A big thank you to Beath Bargain Store, Cowdenbeath Co-op, Hallmark, Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre, and Precious Events for selling them.
"Also, to everyone who purchased a calendar for this worthy cause.
"It is brilliant that there is such superb support for these two major public occasions."
