LOCHGELLY couple June and James Fraser celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday.

James was born in Glencraig but brought up in Ballingry while June is a Lumphinnans lass.

The couple married on March 9 1968 at a time James was very much part of the mining industry.

He started as an apprentice electrician, in the NCB Central Workshops in Cowdenbeath and was soon working at the Mary Colliery, in Lochore, before moving to the Pee Weep in Lumphinnans and then Bogside Mine, as the mining industry would down.

After Bogside closed he went to work at Rosyth Dockyard with the Property Services Agency looking after properties and fittings.

Later he began working in the off-shore industry at St Fergus but came back to Rosyth from where he retired after suffering a heart attack.

James admits to being a regular Cowdenbeath fan as a young man but occasionally goes to watch Rangers these days.

June worked as a machinist at the Halbeath Jeltek Factory and then worked at Lyle and Scott in Dunfermline, and after having the couple's children Anne, David and June, she went to back to work at the Asda store off Halbeath Road, in Dunfermline, before becoming a cashier at the Laidlaws petrol station in Halbeath Road and then working as an agent with Provident.

The couple enjoy their theatre visits and will be celebrating their golden wedding with a trip to the Playhouse, in Edinburgh, and then a family meal.

June and James also have grandchildren, Stephen, Adele, Amber, Jake and Rose and greatgrandchild Ellie.
