A KIND-HEARTED driver has been doing his bit to help those stuck in the snow by offering free lifts and carrying out errands.

Donald Rowe, 50, a skip driver with Lochgelly company, Owen Buchanan Builders, posted on Facebook and said he was available to help any health professionals or home carers who couldn’t get to work because of the weather.

He said: “I can get to where I need to be and I don’t want anything in return. I’ve had experience with the NHS.

“I’m not long back at work after a back operation and my partner Rhona had a suspected heart attack recently, and I managed to get her to the Vic.

“The staff have always been great so it’s just my way of giving something back.”

Donald, a skip lorry driver with OBB in Lochgelly's Cartmore Industrial Estate, continued: “The boss felt it wasn’t safe for our lorries to be out so rather than sit idle I just thought I would help out.

“I managed to get some bread and milk for my neighbours and did a run for some relatives so thought I’d put my services out there.

“I’ve got an Audi A6 allroad and I think I’m a competent driver, I’ve been driving for 30 years, so I put a message out to any healthcare workers, nurses and carers that were struggling to get to work.

“I’m took someone to Kirkcaldy last night and today I’ve got three pick-ups, in Camdean, Abbeyview and Lochgelly, who are all going to the Victoria Hospital.”

Donald added: “There are a lot of idiots on the roads though. A lot of them that have 4x4s think they’re fine but they’re driving too fast and their motor can still slide, the same as anyone else.

"They just need to use a bit of sense and drive to the conditions.”
