THE Lochgelly Community Police team told January’s meeting of the Community Council that there were 58 crimes reported in the town, which was lower by comparison with other areas.

Of these, 32 were detected and offences included vandalism, anti-social behaviour and assault.

The action plan which was instigated to combat the sale of alcohol to underage people has seen one retailer caught and charged with the offence and one individual who was purchasing alcohol for under-age drinkers charged.

Said council secretary Stevie Murray: "Expressing gratitude for the work carried out over the last 12 months, community councillors expressed concerns about suggestions that there would be changes to personnel involved with community policing in the town".

The next meeting of the community council is scheduled for (Wednesday February 14) at 6.30pm in Lodge Minto 385, North Street. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
