MEMBERS of Lochgelly Development Forum had a real surprise when they were invited to the announcement of the SURF Award winners for 2017 last week.

Eileen McKenna, Helen Ross and Christine McGrath had been part of Lochgelly winning the title of Scotland's Most Improved Town and they were invited through to Glasgow to the event at the Central Hotel.

They were delighted to hear that Irvine had won the Most Improved Town category, but even more so to see that the developments of 2017 in Lochgelly were highlighted in the evening programme.

Said Helen: "It was nice to be invited through to the awards ceremony and it was even nicer to see the item in the pamphlet about the continued success of the Community Shop and the Mining Heritage Trail opening. The mining heritage centre was also mentioned."
