Lochgelly woman retires

Anne retired as warden at Lochgelly's Wilson Bruce Court Sheltered Housing Complex, in Minto Street, on Wednesday, having worked her way up the ladder to take over the as head of the 36 flat facility in the early 1990s.

On Wednesday colleagues joined tenants at Wilson Bruce Court to hold a special retiral lunch for the Lochgelly woman and the residents of the Sheltered Housing Complex all said they were very sad to see her go.

Born in Ballingry, Anne has lived in Lochgelly for most of her life and started at Wilson Bruce Court as a home carer in 1978.

She then became the cleaner and in the mid 1990s was successful in becoming warden.

Since then she has become the face that families like to see when they visit their loved ones knowing that the service provided at the Minto Street complex is of the highest quality.

Said Anne: "I have had a lovely time over the past four decades here and had the pleasure of looking after so many really nice people.

"Meeting their families has also been a great experience and the staff I have been lucky enough to work with has made the task that bit more manageable and enjoyable.

"I have always seen our role as being able to give families peace of mind in the knowledge that their loved ones are being well looked after."

Indeed, the quality of the service offered by Anne saw her win Fife Council's Housing Sector's Customer Service Champion Award for 2017.

She commented: "That was a real surprise, I can tell you, but I was delighted to receive it."

What is Anne going to do with her spare time during her retiral: "I want to have a policy of making time for myself.

"I have always been keen on walking so I will certainly be aiming to do more of that."

Anne received a watch from the tenants along with flowers and perfume.

Wilson Bruce Court will next year undergo a major refurbishment, similar to that which saw Graham Court, in Lochore, completely updated two years ago.
