PUTTING on their first production in September was an amazing journey for the cast of Lochgelly Youth Theatre.

Their version of 'Hairspray' was staged at Lochgelly Centre and it was so good that the audience left asking what their next show would be.

So Cowdenbeath Area Youthbank members were delighted to welcome some cast members and committee of the local performing arts group to the Lochgelly Centre last week to present them with a cheque for £750.

This is the very first award that the Youthbank have made and Lochgelly Youth were delighted to be the first recipients of money from this fund.

Liam Nardone, the Lochgelly High School pupil who enjoyed pulling the very young cast together for Hairspray, said that the group wanted to thank the Youthbank for their award and that the monies will go towards equipment etc for their next production which is taking place in March. The group will take to the stage with the show ‘Fame’. Tickets for all three nights March 28, 29 and 30, are available from the Lochgelly Centre or www.onfife.com

The Youthbank is a partnership with the Coalfield’s Regeneration Trust, Youthbank Scotland and Fife Council. The Coalfield’s Regeneration Trust awarded the group with monies last year to distribute throughout the Cowdenbeath Area to local projects that supported work with young people.

Youthbank member Katie stressed that the application is straight forward and the criteria for an award is really simple. The most important criteria is that the monies must directly benefit young people aged 8 to 18 within the Cowdenbeath Ward Area (Kelty, Benarty, Cowdenbeath, Cardenden, Lumphinnans, Lochgelly and Crossgates).

Young people must also be involved in preparing the application.

The maximum a group can apply for is £750; and the maximum an individual can apply for is £250.

Other YouthBank members Abby Bryson and Ryan Scott encouraged any groups across the area to get in touch and request an application form. You can get them by dropping an email to lorraine.mullen@fife.gov.uk and the Youthbank will get one to you.
