A LOCHGELLY charity was on Thursday named Scotland's Animal Charity of the Year at an event held at Glasgow's Marriott Hotel on Thursday.

Sunny Harbour Cat and Kitten Rescue are based in Bank Street and have strong support from the people of the town.

The aim of Sunny Harbour Cat Rescue is to ease the suffering of abandoned and stray cats and kittens in and around Edinburgh and Fife. It is a small, family run cat rescue who dedicate their efforts to promoting good welfare practices for cats and to helping those cats and kittens in their care back to health, so that they may find them a new loving forever home.

The core focus is those cats living stray on the streets, the sick, injured and infirm who need special care to heal. Sunny Harbour specialise in the hand rearing of infant and orphaned kittens and are on hand to offer advice on any aspects of cat care to the public through their Advice Line and Cat Care Centre.

Sunny Harbour Cat Rescue relies entirely on the generosity of the public to provide vital services to sick, abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens in the region.

Run by dedicated duo Paul and Sarah Ross their work has seen them deal with some difficult cases, indeed, a couple of years back Sunny Harbour's influence saw a cat called Mr get his damaged face completely rebuilt and he was soon living a normal live.

But they do a whole lot of other work which won them this accolade. Said Paul: "We did not think for a minute we would be the winners, it was some surprise, it just blew us away.

"We could not achieve anything without the superb public backing we get.

"Without the public's help we could not help the hundreds of cats and kittens we save every year."

Paul added: "We do not know yet what our prize is to be, all we have been told is it will be a big surprise!"
