LOCHGELLY Community Council is calling on local MSPs to help get the campaign for a new health centre in the town back on course.

The community council has been leading the way in the campaign which seemed to be making a lot of progress up until a couple of weeks ago.

NHS Fife had confirmed they were happy with the requirement for a replacement for the current David Street Health Centre which is no longer big enough to handle the population of the town.

And with this set to rise as the new houses being built at The Avenue site spring up next year, a requirement for a replacement is seen as critical by the community council members.

Community Councillors expressed utter dismay at the decision to delay the plans for the new Health Centre, which came in correspondence which chair of Cowdenbeath Area Committee, Councillor Linda Erskine said, was because the Scottish Health Minister required more information on the project.

Secretary of the community council, Stevie Murray, said: "It what was something of a shock to hear of the delay, despite support from the NHS for the Community Council’s campaign in our detailed submission.

"It would appear that the Scottish Government has decided not to progress with the proposal and to seek more ‘additional details’.

"Community Councillors hope all local MSPs stand up for Lochgelly and press the Health Minister, Shona Robison, to move this project forward as soon as possible."
