AFTER a decade of the improving centre of Lochgelly being dominated by a derelict former industrial site, the town's Community Council says 'It is time for change'.

The Community Council's meeting was provided with an update on the re-development of the old Fabtek site in Hall Street.

This is an area which the Community Council have campaigned to see investment in and refurbishment carried out, but it is still dominating part of the town which has seen a 16 property new housing development built including the refurbishment of the Town House.

Fife Council's Hazel Cross explained that the local authority remained in dialogue with the owners of the site about the continuing poor condition of it and what actions are necessary to bring it back into a useable state.

With improvements having been completed all around this area of dereliction the community council members are anxious that this is improved in one way or another, as soon as possible.

Said secretary of the community council, Stevie Murray: "The Community Council remain committed to ensuring that this blight in an area which has been transformed in recent years, needs to be addressed.

"Social housing is clearly the preferred solution for the site which has been derelict for close on 10 years and is a not only an eyesore but is also a health and safety risk".

The former factory site has been a target for young intruders over the past few years and there has been concern about these sort of people possibly sustaining serious injuries in what is regarded as a site which could present dangers.

It is a fairly sizeable site which has one or two areas which present a youngster with determination the chance of entry.
