THE eagerly anticipated Game-a-thon, to celebrate Lochgelly High School’s 30th birthday, meant a lot of hard work for the entire school and the fifth and sixth years were burning the midnight oil!

The event began on Friday morning at 9am with the S1s playing their part in the Game-a-thon and by 11am they had been joined by the S2 youngsters.

The third year were involved during the afternoon and had a busy time with S4 joining in at 5pm.

The night time session started at 7pm when the S5 and 6 pupils began their part in proceedings and they had to face going through the night.

It was not totally easy for the young people to keep up to speed in the wee sma' hours but achieve it they did and they ensured everything kept going through to the start of the Massed Pipe Band event at 11am.

There was no shortage of pipers to take part in it from the bands of the past 30 years and they marched out of the school and on to the B921 and up Station Road and back into the school grounds.

Months of preparation and hard work went into the Lochgelly High School 30th Anniversary celebrations and the Game-a-thon ran superbly.

The staff played their part by working in shifts to keep the night time events ticking over nicely and although there were a few bleary eyes on Saturday morning for the band event they were all there.

All staff and students have spent their summer collecting sponsorship for their chosen charities and warming up for the full 24 hours of game playing!

The sponsored events included Ultimate Frisbee, football, Monopoly, Just Dance and Pinball - something for everyone.

The charities the pupils chose were The Polar Academy, Macmillan Cancer Support and The Anthony Nolan Trust.

The school’s rector, Carol Ann Penrose, and depute rector, Sarah Wozniak, were joined by enthusiastic colleagues during the two day event and were delighted with the way things went.
