TIME is flying in now and there is only three weeks to go until the Lochgelly High Game-a-thon celebrating the school's 30th birthday!

While most school children in Scotland have been enjoying a relaxing summer, the students of Lochgelly High School have been busy collecting sponsorship and warming up for 24 hours of fundraising and game playing in preparation for the events of August 18 and 19.

The Station Road school has become a strong part of the communities of Lochgelly, Benarty and Cardenden and the headteacher, Carol Ann Penrose and her staff want as many people as possible to get involved.

Said depute headteacher, Sarah Wozniak: "As part of our 30th Anniversary celebrations all staff and pupils are involved in an exciting event, marking three decades of achievement and pride in our community.

"Students have chosen to raise money for The Polar Academy, Anthony Nolan Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support".

The school will see 10 pupils and Ms Penrose head for the Arctic in March with the The Polar Academy.

Added Sarah: "Local business partners and members of the community have been supporting us with preparations and donations and are as excited as we are about the big day"!

The Lochgelly High School Pipe Band has been a key part of the school since it opened and a mass pipe band display is planned as part of the celebration on Saturday August 19.

And to achieve that the school is looking for as many former members of the pipe band to come forward and take part in the event.

Principal Teacher of Music, Mandy Miller, wants to hear from any former band members who wants to take part.

Our picture shows pupils from the school who were involved in an initiative with St Andrews University which proved highly successful displaying their certificates. See the LHS Diary on the centre pages.
