LOCHGELLY'S Gala Parade on Sunday August 20 is set to have the biggest number of floats in many a long day.

The Gala Committee this week reported that around 15 floats had been entered for the parade which this year will have a slightly different route. There will also be a prize for the best float.

Things will kick-off at the West End Park at 10.30am on August 20 with a fancy dress parade and competition for children in the age ranged 4 - 6 and 7 - 12 with no particular theme this year.

The parade, which will come down Zetland Place on to Main Street before heading along towards the public park via Bank Street, will include the town's three primary schools along with some new 'guests' in the shape of Star Wars Stormtroopers, Mickey Mouse and Mini Mouse along with veteran motor bikers.

The bands will include Lochgelly Public Brass Band, Lochgelly High School Pipe Band, The Salvation Army Band and the Resonate Samba Band.

At the park there will be a host of free rides available on the new grassed area where Joe's Band will be playing. There will be such attractions as Birds of Prey displays, pony rides, train rides and custom cars.

RockGelly will be there to give people the chance to try climbing while there will be all sorts of refreshments available.

Gala boxes, costing £1 are currently on sale at Kooners, Special Occasions, Edward Brown's The Loft,The Minto Lounge, MENS, The Old SHip, Macaris Cafe, The Sunflower Nursery and also the Co-op.

The Gala Committee's Derek Johnstone and George Courts explained how things have been organised. Said Derek: "There will be some excellent entertainment at the park including Magic Del Boy and we are looking for the people of Lochgelly to come out in huge numbers.

"We want this to be a really special day and packed pavements and a busy park is what will make it that."

George added: "We are being able to keep charges for rides to an absolute minimum through some excellent fundraising events, with fantastic support from the public and also backing from sponsors.

"Hopefully the weather will be excellent for the big day."
