LOCHGELLY woman Linda Erskine has been elected chair of Cowdenbeath Area Committee.

Councillor Erskine will be the third chair of the committee which looks after the affairs of the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area in 12 months.

Former Benarty councillor Willie Clarke chaired the committee for a nine years and was replaced last May by another Lochgelly councillor Mark Hood.

At Wednesday's first meeting of the committee since the Fife Council elections Ms Erskine was unanimously appointed.

She said: "I am delighted to be given this honour but I realise that there is a lot of important work to be done over the coming weeks and months."

New Benarty, Lochgelly and Cardenden councillor, Rosemary Liewald, was elected as vice chairman.
