THE new Fife Cycle Park in Lochgelly will be completed by September, Cowdenbeath Area Committee was told.

Emma Broadhurst, Fife Council's Physical Activity and Legacy Manager, told councillors that the construction of the track and pavilion started on March 22 and the project was expected to take 22 weeks.

A report was presented to members detailing the positive work carried out by the Cycling Development Officer and an update was given on the plans for the Fife Cycle Park. The building of the Fife Cycle Park, between Lochgelly High School and Lochore Meadows, started on March 26 and is estimated to take 22 weeks, including the Club House with a completion date set for September 2017.

This facility will be the first in its kind in Scotland and has attracted much regional and national interest so far. Local cycling and triathlon clubs are also very keen to use it.

The Assistant Cycling Development Officer will be working with primary and secondary schools in the area to develop cycling schools and future use of the park.

It’s anticipated that the circuit will be open all year round and available for daytime, evening and weekend use.

Emma stated: "Community engagement will continue throughout the project to ensure all those interested in getting involved will have the opportunities to do so.

"The ACDO will ensure to meet the diverse needs of the community.

"The facility will be the first of its kind in Scotland and has attracted much regional and national interest within the cycling fraternity.

"Already we know that local triathlon and cycling clubs are very keen to utilise this facility and have watched and engaged with interest as the plans progress.

"Active Fife has been able to all parties up to date as the plans progress via newsletters, networking events and correspondence with key representatives and nationally clubs and event organisers are also watching with interest and are very keen to hear news on when the facility will be open for business."
