WITH Scottish Council elections taking place in just a few weeks, voters in Fife are being reminded to make sure they’re registered to vote and are able to take part on polling day, Thursday May 4.

Fife Council is reminding voters in the two new wards in this area, Cowdenbeath and Kelty, and Lochgelly, Cardenden and Benarty, that they need to register by midnight on Monday April 17 otherwise they won’t be able to take part in the Scottish Council elections.

Linda Bissett, electoral registration officer for Fife, said: “Time’s running out to make sure you can take part in May’s council elections, so I’d encourage everyone in Fife to take action now if they’re not already registered to vote.

"It’s quick and easy to register, but after the deadline of April 17, it’ll be too late. And don’t forget that if you’re 16 or 17 by May 4 you’ll also be able to register and vote in these elections too.”

Andy O’Neill, head of the electoral commission in Scotland added: “Our research shows that young people, students and recent home movers are particularly less likely to be registered to vote.

"So if you have moved house recently, then make sure you’re registered correctly. If you’re not registered, you won’t be able to have your say on issues that directly affect your day-to-day life in Fife.”
