RED Nose Day on Friday turned into a superb fundraising exercise for the pupils at Lochgelly West Primary School.

The children had been planning their special day to raise cash for the national charity for some time and it all came together just perfectly and our photographer Jim Payne caught the action.

It was promising to be the biggest and best fundraiser that Lochgelly West has ever done and no one was disappointed.

Over the past few weeks year Primary 2T, with the support of teachers and staff, have been busy planning, practising and perfecting their activities ready for the big day.

The week started with the selling of red noses. The day itself was packed with fun and fundraising, starting with all the children of the school wearing something red.

There was also plenty of activities for the children to participate in, such as a red nose day treasure hunt, cupcake decorating and a competition to design your own Red Nose!

Staff commented on how the youngsters used their imaginations to make the day a success and how it was was really exciting to see the children become excited about raising money for Comic Relief.

“They had planned and organised a day of fun for the whole school to be involved in. They have really enjoyed learning about the different projects that will benefit from the money that is raised,” it was stated.

The youngsters felt strongly that it was time to help people in Africa, Celebrate Red Nose Day and help people children in Africa who had suffered set-backs from their parents being struck down by the Ebola virus.

They use the tale of Hassan, a 12 year old boy living in Sierra Leone whose mother died from contracting the Ebola virus. Thanks to Red Nose Day money he was able to return to school following the crisis and the West kids wanted to help people like Hassan.

Nationally the Red Nose Day TV event was hosted by comedian Lenny Henry and the fantastic support the funfilled day attracted was an amazing total of over £50m with the West pupils playing their part.
