A SHERIFF at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday criticised a man for 'inaccuracies' in his evidence.

Sheriff Linda Smith said Ryan Venters provided a version of events to the Court at trial that were different to the criminal justice report.

Venters has been involved with an altercation with a man after their two sons had been fighting.

Sheriff Smith said: "The evidence you gave in the trial is different to the criminal justice report. You had accepted that your behaviour was too hasty, however, there was a pre-emptive strike and if you were acting in self-defence you would have got out as quickly as you could."

Venters, 34, of Sunnybraes Terrace, Steelend, previously admitted that on July 6, 2015, at Lochgelly Motorsport Complex, he did assault a man and did punch him on the head to his injury.

Defence solicitor, Stephen Morrison, said his client accepts his hastiness but felt aggrieved.

"He was faced with an aggressive situation from the boy's father. He had broken-up two boys in a fight, one of them was his son.

"There has been a marked reduction in his offending since this incident. The two men have also been in close proximity every weekend at the stock car track with no further problems."

Sheriff Smith said: "I'm fining you £250 because my recollection of your evidence is different to what it says in this report."
